The Heedless Warning
by Hokis, senior editor

Shift your interest
from the accident by the side of the road, gaze
out front, towards that dopamine dripping destination
endlessly ahead. No need to worry, the side view

now managed, you are no longer required to twist your spine,
to assess nor offer a best guess for your blind spot;

it's managed, you are no longer
required to heed that curious warning:

"Objects are closer than they appear."

All the while, the perfect pacing
of the gifted humorist tempting fate is behind you, whispering:

"Your tale is on fire,
and it's chasing you."

Poem was prompted by “Chomsky: By Focusing on Russia, We Ignore Trump’s Existential Threat to Climate,” by David Barsamian (fellow Armenian), Truthout, August 21, 2019.
