where beauteous mountains
are draped with plastic shrouds so the forest of rejected
erect trees aren’t tempted to spew their pollen,
poisoning Eve’s innocent sweet fruit.

where the long-winded landscape
blows hot hair, unknowingly strengthening the labia-shaped
man-eating plants whose poisoned cast-iron balls
Adam mistakes as his momma’s womb.

i’ve lived here nearly 50 years, cautiously thrilled
there are now a few cruise ships showing up to take people
to the promised land. these proclaimed water-walking condo-sized
rafts are costly, move slowly.

the island’s youth-elders are speaking against such convenient escapes
preaching from their pulpit of primary sources:
“these ships are powered by chained slaves in the their underbellies”
their marching followers won’t step off the homeland

until this is first made right.
