Trees witness our lives. This section is for work which speaks from a tree that lived through an era, witnessed a specific moment in history, or one from your own personal history. Inspiration for this section came from:
- The canopy of a sequoia during the logging boom.
- A tree sacrificed in an aborigine prescription fire.
- The Goethe’s Oak that stood just outside the fence of the Auschwitz Birkenau camp.
- The oak you would climb as a child.
- The bark of the paper birch during a forest fire.
- Jozef the Oak who hid two boys from the Nazi officers.
- The pine in your yard that housed a hummingbird nest during a stronger than usual windstorm.
- The pine of Bly, Oregon who holds shrapnel from a Japanese balloon bomb.
This section is open to visual art as well as poetry and prose of any form. Previously published and simultaneous submissions welcomed. Submissions always open.
