Tiny blossoms: baby fists
clinging to their stem as if
it were their mother’s finger.

I attack six stems;
the scent of their death
stains the air.

Three months without blood
and thoughts are turning,
darkening, emptying.

I slough the darling buds,
funnel them into this
small silk purse.

I will hang the purse
from my bedpost.

The embryos will sing me to sleep.
