Mother nature takes her breath

As man is rendered breathless

a virus breeding respiratory failure

lungs saturated in our sins

the toxicity inflicted onto Earth

has been injected into our system

our carelessness has become poison

we share with family and friends.

Survival is in isolation

we’re all called to Quarantine

to quell the vicious virus

virulently attacking the vulnerable

we all face the inevitable

with every sunrise

we take a chance

just to savor sweet life

slipping away as we speak.

We’re left speechless

and unable to breathe

a destiny deserved

our throats sucked dry,

solitary confinement

because of what we’ve done

to our beautiful earth

an evolutionary balancing

to create new ways of being

cocooning us into

who we are yet to become.

We burrow ourselves

into hope

that we will become

better.
