A documentary revolving around the 20th-anniversary performance of the first all-male, African-American theatre company in the nation, the Hittite Empire. They toured the world using at-risk youth as performers in the cities they visited, leaving them with their own performance companies to continue to tell their stories. Calling on these companies performers heeded and came to Highways Performance Space to create a new work for the anniversary entitled, Man in the Belly of a Slaveship: From Angola to Angola. Angola to Angola references the major ports in Africa and Louisiana, where the Angola plantation continues it’s use of free labor in the form of the largest private prison in the USA.
